privatewelldata / Privacy policy

Privacy policy

Effective date: October 18, 2026 (updated)

privatewelldata.com is a free, independent website that helps people find official well-water information and certified laboratories. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, where it goes and what rights you have. It is written to meet Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (as amended by Law 25) and applies to every visitor.

Privacy Officer

This website is operated by an individual. Our Privacy Officer is the person in charge of the protection of personal information and can be reached at casey@privatewelldata.com. Write to this address for any question, request or complaint about your personal information.

What we collect and why

Yearly testing reminder (optional): your email address, the postal or ZIP code you enter (optional) and the site version you used (United States, Canada English or Canada French). We use them only to send you a confirmation email and a yearly reminder to test your well. Nothing is sent until you confirm. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

Analytics (only if you accept): Google Analytics 4 measures pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type so we can improve the site. It is off by default and only starts after you click Accept in the cookie banner.

Technical data: our host, Cloudflare, processes IP addresses and request data to deliver the site and protect it against abuse. We do not use this data to identify you.

No artificial intelligence: nothing you type or submit on this site is processed by an AI system.

We do not ask for or keep your name, street address, well test results or payment information, and we never sell or rent personal information.

Cookies and similar technologies

We set no advertising or analytics cookies unless you accept them. If you accept analytics, Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga) for up to 13 months. Your choice is stored in your browser so we don't ask again. You can change it at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page. The site does not show advertising today; if we add it, advertising cookies will also require your consent.

Service providers and transfers outside Quebec

We use these providers, which may process your information outside Quebec and Canada: Cloudflare, Inc. (hosting, database and email sending; United States and its global network) and Google LLC (analytics, only with your consent; United States). Their privacy protections may differ from Quebec's. We share only what each service needs to do its job.

Affiliate links

Some links to products or laboratories may be affiliate links (for example through Impact). If you buy through them we may earn a commission at no cost to you. The partner may set its own cookies when you click; its privacy policy then applies. Affiliate links never change which official data we show.

How long we keep information

Reminder signups are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Analytics data is kept by Google for at most 14 months.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and stored with access limited to the site operator. If a confidentiality incident presents a risk of serious injury, we will notify the Commission d'accès à l'information and the people affected, and we keep a register of incidents as the law requires.

Your rights

You can ask to access or correct your personal information, withdraw your consent, have it deleted, or receive it in a structured, commonly used technological format. Write to casey@privatewelldata.com; we answer within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can file a complaint with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (www.cai.gouv.qc.ca).

Children

The site is not directed to children under 14 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

Changes

We will post any change to this policy on this page with a new effective date.
